MUSIC, WORKSHOPS

October 14, 2026

‍

We're excited to bring a series of live music, workshops, film screenings and creative experiences to regional NSW this November, connecting local artists and
communities with First Nations artists and creatives from across the state. Presented in partnership with the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner, the regional program will activate venues and creative spaces across Lismore, Ballina, Coffs Harbour and Maitland, creating opportunities for audiences to experience First Nations music, storytelling, movement and film in local settings.
‍

There'll be industry and music business workshops, DJ workshops, movement workshops, a screening of the documentary The Colleano Heart, and live performance events featuring local artists alongside Mr Rhodes, Source Decay and other First Nations artists and creatives.

Ever wondered what happens inside a recording studio? Join the Awesome Black team at our new Maitland studio for a welcoming, practical introduction to recording and production.

This 90-minute workshop offers a look at how sound moves from a microphone to a finished recording. We’ll introduce some of the equipment used in the studio, explore the basics of capturing sound and demonstrate how recordings can be edited.

You’ll have opportunities to get hands-on, try things out and ask questions along the way. Together, we’ll explore how small choices in recording and editing can shape what you hear, and how a studio can support your creative ideas.

Designed as a studio 101 session, the workshop is a starting point for anyone curious about recording music, making a podcast or working with sound. You don’t need professional experience or technical knowledge—just an interest in learning how it works.

Led by Awesome Black creatives, this session is also a chance to explore the new studio, meet other people interested in making things and get more comfortable in a recording environment.

Come away with a clearer understanding of the recording process and some ideas for where to take your own creative experiments next.
Open to emerging artists, DJs, music-makers and aspiring music industry creatives.
