Candice Lorrae - Calling me

In her debut solo single, 'Calling Me', Candice Lorrae crafts a sound that strikes a beautiful balance between the earthy and the ethereal. The track explores her profound connection to Country, family, and identity.

Sonically, the single opens with a distant, atmospheric pad sound and a shimmering synth that hovers like a mirage on a flat horizon. This is beautifully grounded by acoustic guitar, chamber piano, and a relaxed, cruising drum groove that pulls the entire piece together. Delivering rich, soulful vocals reminiscent of Tracy Chapman, Lorrae carries an unmistakable depth of wisdom and experience. While the track feels almost too grounded to fit entirely within dream pop, it captures that exact essence perfectly.

A proud Jawoyn and Torres Strait Islander woman with roots extending across the Northern Territory and the Western Torres Strait, Candice Lorrae brings a wealth of experience to her music. Well-known as one-half of the duo The Merindas between 2012 and 2024, she also founded Candy Suite Studios, training First Nations women in music production.

Mr Rhodes - My Time

'My Time' opens with a combination of agile keys and intimate vocals in the very first bar, sounding self-assured and close-up from the jump. The distinct drum groove drops in, creating a sonic atmosphere that feels like a steady predator moving through the water or walking your city streets with your cans on. This consistent simmer builds, compounding beautifully with DJ Mud’s precise scratching techniques.

Co-producer Art Pleasely melts rich chords over the groove, eventually cutting through the arrangement with a filthy, standout synth line. All the while, he's singing the hook. And when Pleasley is singing, you know it’s him. Complementing this forward-thinking production, Mr Rhodes (That Bundjalung Boy) delivers his performance with a highly refined sound and sharp lyrical precision. The track successfully balances innovation and heritage, resulting in a production style that feels cutting-edge yet reassuringly familiar and solidified. Reflections of a shifting perspective.

Rox Lavi - Berry Girl

Fueled by instinct, friendship, and fireball, the rise of ROX LAVI has taken them from caravan demos in Armidale to sold-out gigs in Sydney. The band has built a reputation for explosive live shows and deeply personal lyrics, disregarding formulas and convention in favour of authentic songs. Bringing an undeniable force of energy to their music, they merge an eclectic mix of rap, rock, and reggae influences into the unique sound that we have come to love.

ROX LAVI makes a striking return with 'BERRY GIRL', the first follow-up track since their 2025 album Blah blah about the blah. The song hooks you instantly with its spanky guitar riffs. Before you know it, the chorus will be living rent-free in your head — but don't sweat it, they're excellent tenants. Once the driving drum groove and nasty synth bass kick in, heartbreak has never felt quite this good. It's a brilliant blend of boom bap and indie pop rock that makes me feel like day-drinking and longing for a girl I’ve never actually met.

BIG NOTER - F.M.D

The new hardcore metal/rock project BIG NOTER, from Blak icon Briggs, leaves listeners wondering why we haven’t been copping this side of his artistry the entire time. Following up on  previous releases 'TALK STRAIGHT' and 'IDENTITY', 'BIG NOTER' has delivered a punch straight to the gut with the track 'F.M.D'. The sonic experience begins with chanting, which quickly explodes into a sick intense guitar riff, driven by earthy, rumbling drums and window-rattling bass.

Beyond the heavy instrumentation, the lyrics give clear voice to a profound frustration that is all too familiar to the Mob navigating this colony. It speaks directly to the same tired go-to statements in the news and comment sections. "HANDOUTS". Reality is, there are absolutely no handouts, nothing is ever given and only taken away, driven by those who want to keep exactly what they got, determined to take whatever they see and watch while you bleed. Anything we have is overdue, no handouts round ere lah.
