Genre-agnostic and always deadly. Each month we'll highlight a few from the bunch here on STAUNCH.

‍

Miles Nautu – Wrath of Cain

‍

This song tells the hypothetical story of how the narrator's jealousy and anger over a friend having more than them drove them to commit murder for no good reason. It opens with ominous swells from the string section over vinyl crackles, then we’re then slapped with a busy funk drum groove. Tension keeps simmering underneath Miles’ hard-hitting flow.

The combination of the string swells and intense drum groove keeps tension rising. Mix this with the wailing saxophone and it’s safe to say I’m thrown back to all those damn good 90s movies.

Being angry at others with more opportunities has affected much of Miles' life and shaped who he is. He often uses that emotion as fuel to create and push himself.  It remains questionable whether that is healthy, which is why this song exists — as a depiction of extreme retribution. The theme feels particularly relevant in the current state of the world, drawing loose inspiration from the real-life event involving a man named Luigi and a billionaire.

Velvet Trip – Fake Tree

‍

Fresh off a string of North American dates culminating in Los Angeles, Velvet Trip returns with 'Fake Tree' — their second release of 2026, following January's LPGlimmers Continued. This vibrant alternative-indie single carries us through the second half of the year with warm, steady basslines and rhythmic drums that anchor lively guitar riffs and percussion. Paired with nostalgic production that feels like we’re listening to a cassette tape, the track offers a comforting reminder that stepping back for a moment doesn't mean losing that deep connection. Feel like dancing in a a field under an open sky? Here’s your soundtrack.

YellowBelly Crew – Work In

‍

If you love West-Coast Hip Hop, get ready for West NSW Hip Hop to dominate your playlist. The Yellowbelly Crew are making waves in every direction. Tucked out the Back’O’Bourke, the brothers have created a First Nations creative hub in the remote NSW outback. Yellowbelly studio is a recording studio, barbershop, coffee shop and retail store rolled into one.

Heavy-hitting beats, vocals and strong messages are all over this self-titled EP. The crew embody their raw, honest lyricism, “just cause you come from a small place don’t mean you can’t do big things.”

‍

RONA. – To The Ground

‍

This banger begins with an ambient soft padded soundscape of broad space and bird sounds. As the groove develops, this peaceful feeling carries along. Once the beat drops and we’re not feeling overcrowded, there’s still so much space to hold us. Calm, breathy vocals remind us that the separation of humans and nature is an illusion. We’re grounded in the low end that feels MASSIVE with a knocking bass drum while a hypnotic synth line cycles through. Our ceremony, much like vibrations and energy, never ceases to exist. It just shifts and changes form.

Go watch the music video directed by Bonny Scott and RONA. Just do it.
