Awesome Black Expands First Nations Presence in NSW’s Night-Time Economy Following the Success of Yours & Owls Festival
Following the massive success of our collaboration with Yours & Owls Festival, Awesome Black is continuing our work with the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner to embed First Nations culture, storytelling and creativity into NSW’s late night landscape. Over the coming months, we’ll be working across three additional late night precincts, curating incredible First Nations talent and creating dynamic, culturally rich events that celebrate Indigenous artistry in new and exciting ways.
Building on the momentum of Yours & Owls
Our partnership with Yours & Owls saw a huge increase in First Nations representation, with artists like Kobie Dee, Becca Hatch, Velvet Trip, and Miss Kaninna taking the stage, alongside the Respect Country installation – a cultural space where festival-goers could connect with First Nations storytelling and knowledge. This activation not only showcased incredible Indigenous talent but also set a new standard for how First Nations culture can be meaningfully integrated into major festivals and events.
Expanding to more precincts – calling First Nations artists!
Awesome Black is now taking this work beyond Yours & Owls, collaborating with three more late night precincts across NSW before June 2025. These events will continue to highlight First Nations music, performance and storytelling, ensuring that Indigenous creativity is not just seen, but truly celebrated in the state’s night-time economy.
While the official precincts will be announced soon, we are currently seeking First Nations artists, musicians, performers and creatives to be part of these upcoming events. Whether you’re an emerging act or an established name, this is an opportunity to showcase your work, connect with new audiences, and be part of something groundbreaking.
A bigger vision for First Nations in the NSW 24-hour economy
Our work with the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner is about more than just programming – it’s about embedding First Nations voices, stories and culture into the fabric of NSW’s night-time economy. By curating these events, working closely with venues and local councils, and ensuring Indigenous representation is prioritised at every stage, we’re paving the way for long-term opportunities for First Nations creatives in music, performance and beyond.
If you’re a First Nations artist, musician, dancer, performer or creative looking to be involved, we’d love to hear from you!
